The Institute of the American Indian Arts began on the campus of the Santa Fe Indian School in 1962 with support from the Bureau of Indian Education and the Indian Arts and Crafts Board. The Institute has been critical in the development of contemporary Indigenous art and artists in the United States.
Our office holds correspondence, reports, and administrative records created by the Indian Arts and Crafts Board鈥檚 employees involved in the development of the Southern Plains Indian Museum in Browning, MT; and the Southwest Area Representative who documented the creation and management of the Navajo Arts and Crafts Guild, the Pueblo Market and Santa Fe Indian School, and Office of Economic Opportunity project at Zuni Pueblo.
