dcterms:description "MPEG-4 is a lossy compression multimedia container, mostly used for audio and video, part of the extensive Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) family. MPEG-4 is also known as MP4 or MPEG-4 Part 14. MPEG-4 version 1 was released in 2001 and version 2 was released in 2003 with subsequent updates and corresponding ISO numbers. Both versions are similar to the Quicktime MOV format. MPEG is an open standard, is still supported by MPEG, widely used in the community and has open source tools available for transcoding. For reformatted video, 8-bit is acceptable but 10-bit is preferred. MPEG-4, version 1 is considered an acceptable format as per NARA Transfer Guidance and it is preferred to retain MP4 files since the file format is well documented, prevalent in the field, and there are open source tools available for transcoding." ;
