The CDX (Internet Archive Index) file format was developed by the Internet Archive, first released in 2006, and upgraded in 2015. In 2017, CDXJ was released as an extension of CDX to include a JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) block. The JSON block allows for inclusion of additional data within the index files. The CDXJ format can be used with the pywb web archiving toolkit or OpenWayback version 3.0.0 or later. CDXJ has an open specification and has been proposed as an International Internet Preservation Consortium (IIPC) standard but not officially adopted. Since these are plain text and there are tools available to utilize the indices, it is recommended to retain CDXJ files as is." ;
