Kansas City (MO)鈥n Wednesday, March 28 at 6:30 p.m., the 威尼斯人娱乐场 will host a film screening and discussion of Equal Means Equal in collaboration with the UNA Women鈥檚 Committee of the United Nations Association of Greater Kansas City. This program will take place at the 威尼斯人娱乐场. A free light reception will precede the program at 6:00 p.m.听
Equal Means Equal听examines real-life听stories and听precedent-setting听legal cases. Film director Kamala Lopez听uncovers听how outdated and discriminatory attitudes inform and influence seemingly disparate issues, from workplace听harassment听to domestic violence, rape and sexual assault to听the听foster care听system, and the healthcare听conglomerate听to the听judicial听system. Along the way, she reveals the inadequacy of present laws that claim to protect women, ultimately presenting a compelling and persuasive argument for the urgency of ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment.听
Following the film discussion with the audience will include Heather Hardinger, an attorney practicing law in the greater Kansas City area; and Gail James, former Dean and Vice President of Academic Affairs at several colleges, and recently retired from KU as Director of Academic Access Center.
