Diaries, sermons, theological treatises, and correspondence of David Avery (1746-1818), a Congregational minister to churches in Massachusetts, Vermont, and Connecticut. Avery also served as a chaplain in the Revolutionary War, at the Battle of Bunker Hill and in the expedition that crossed the Delaware to attack Trenton. Papers also reference Avery’s mission work among the Oneida Tribe in New York. This collection of papers, one of the largest for an 18th-century American figure, sheds light on a number of aspects of American history during Avery’s lifetime.
