Ethelbert Stewart of Illinois (1857-1933) was a pioneer in the field of labor statistics who served as U.S. Commissioner of Labor Statistics for 12 years. Writings, correspondence, and clippings: pioneer labor statistician; labor editor; Illinois labor commissioner; and statistical advisor to the U.S. Tariff Board. Also involved with vocational education, education of children with speech defects, and other official issues, including Stewart’s early life and his work on the staff of the Industrial Leader in Iowa. The papers also contain occasional brief remarks about various literary figures. ÌýMost of the documents are from the period 1877–1933.
