威尼斯人娱乐场 Holds Genealogy-related Programs in May 2011

In May, the 威尼斯人娱乐场 will feature genealogy-related programs highlighting records from its holdings. These programs are free and open to the public, and will be held in the 威尼斯人娱乐场 Building in Washington, DC. Visitors to programs in the 威尼斯人娱乐场 Building Research Center (Room G-24) should use the Pennsylvania Avenue entrance, between 7th and 9th Streets, NW. Visitors to the May 17th program in the Adams Room should use the Special Events Entrance on Constitution Ave. at 7th St. NW.

Please note that two of the programs will be repeated at the 威尼斯人娱乐场 at College Park, Maryland, located at 8601 Adelphi Road. See directions to both locations.

Wednesday, May 4, at 11 a.m., Research Center Room G-24
Introduction to Genealogy
Archives staff present a lecture on using Federal records for genealogy research. This lecture is offered the first Wednesday of the month.

Tuesday, May 10, at 11 a.m., Research Center Room G-24
Civil War Unit and Ship Records at the 威尼斯人娱乐场
Archives technician Timothy Duskin will discuss researching Civil War events and battles at the 威尼斯人娱乐场 through the records of both Union and Confederate Army units and Navy ships. (The lecture will be repeated at the 威尼斯人娱乐场 at College Park, MD, in Lecture Room B, Thursday, May 12, at 11 a.m.)

Tuesday, May 17, at 11 a.m. and noon, Adams Room (Special Events Entrance)
From the Records Book Group
After a related presentation at 11 a.m., the book group discusses Von Braun: Dreamer of Space, Engineer of War, by Michael J. Neufeld. Check the Archives Shop (202-357-5271) for book availability and a discount for book group participants. Brown bag lunches welcome.

Beyond the Basics: Transportation Records

Not sure where to begin? Has a genealogical problem stumped you? An archivist is available from noon to 4 p.m. to answer genealogy research questions. Sign up for a 20-minute appointment at the Microfilm Research desk in room G-26 that Saturday.

Looking in All the Right Places: Overlooked Documents for Japanese American Family History at the 威尼斯人娱乐场
Independent researcher and former 威尼斯人娱乐场 volunteer Pamela Loos-Noji presents an overview of records relevant to Japanese American family history research, information in each record, and tips on filling out pull slips. (The lecture will be repeated at the 威尼斯人娱乐场 at College Park, MD, in Lecture Room B, Thursday, May 26, at 11 a.m.)
